Barcelona replaces Ferran Torres from Premier League: a super signing meets the club’s standards

Ferran Torres fulfilled his dream by moving to Barcelona from Manchester City last January, becoming Xavi’s first signing as a head coach.

The Spain international has been linked with a departure from the club just 12 months after signing, due to Xavi not being impressed with the player’s return for which the club has paid £46.3m so far.

Ferran Torres has scored just five goals in 19 games this season for Barcelona, three of which came in the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen.

The 22-year-old has only completed the whole game once in 15 LaLiga appearances this season, making eight appearances from the bench.

It is said that Barcelona has decided to sell Ferran Torres and hopes to recover what he paid for signing him, as the club tries to manage its financial crisis.

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha is also said to have emerged as a target for Barcelona on a free transfer, as the winger enters the final months of his contract.

Zaha became free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs from the beginning of the month, before his contract with Crystal Palace expired at the end of the current season.

The Ivory Coast international played 445 times for the South London side, scoring 89 goals.

Zaha’s free availability is said to have caught Barcelona’s attention, as the Catalan giants seek to bolster their attacking options despite their financial constraints. The winger appeared as a summer transfer target, as Barcelona officials considered him a substitute for Ferran Torres.
