Franck Kessie within a swap deal between Barcelona and Aston Villa

One of the biggest disappointments of the 2022/23 season at Barcelona is Frank Kessie. The Ivorian midfielder, who arrived on a free transfer from Milan, did not understand Xavi Hernandez’s method, which prompted Barcelona to consider looking for a way out in this winter market.

The Ivorian, one of the Milan champions who won the Scudetto last year, does not understand the few minutes he spent, so he will not refuse to change his destination as soon as possible.

Indeed, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have a swap deal on the table, with Aston Villa, who already signed Coutinho last year. First, on loan, and then 20 million euros paid.

In the English team, Douglas Luiz plays, he is a quality defensive midfielder with the ball at his feet and vision of the game. Unai Emery wants another midfielder, with more range, so he wouldn’t mind dropping Douglas Luiz if he got Franck Kessie in return.

Douglas Luiz grew up in the lower echelons of Vasco de Gama, the club where he started as a child, and grew by leaps and bounds, until he became one of the great pearls of Brazilian football. Finally, Manchester City got ahead of the rest of the European giants and signed him for 12 million euros. Then he transferred him to Girona, who had just been promoted to the first division.

But at Montilivi, Douglas Luiz struggled more than expected to adapt to European football. In his first season he only played 17 games, though he improved in the second season. Manchester City was not satisfied and decided to sell him, taking advantage of the fact that Aston Villa offered him 16.8 million euros. The player was very good, but not enough to make him an important player at the Etihad Stadium.

And in Aston Villa, finally, the great Douglas Luiz, who dazzled in Brazil, appeared. In 3 and a half seasons, he has already collected 127 matches and has become one of the indispensable pieces of the team’s formation. At 24, Douglas Luiz is at the perfect time to make the leap, which is why he so blindly agreed to sign for Barcelona.

Operation, then, is off the table, because on paper everything seems to indicate that all sides will emerge victorious. Xavi Hernandez will have the reinforcement he craves, another midfielder with good ball touch and quality to replace Sergio Busquets, as well as clearing up a player who is not part of his plans and who constantly demands play.
